This week there were three known attacks by ISIS terrorists. There was a double suicide bomb attack in Beirut. A busy urban area was targeted. 43 died, over 200 were injured. At a Shiite funeral in Bagdad a funeral bomb left 19 dead and 41 wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility. In Paris there were at least three teams who carried out strategic and timed attacks killing 129 and wounding over 350, many critically. This Wednesday, November 11, 2015, we celebrate Veterans Day in the United States of America. This day is set aside each year to honor those who have served in our Armed Forces to keep our country free. This holiday has undergone several changes. In the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day in the eleventh month of 1918 a truce or armistice took place between the Allied nations and Germany. Armistice Day was originally established to honor World War I veterans. In May 1938 November 11 became a legal holiday.

Can you believe we are already in November? I do not know about you but to me it seems that time is moving so swiftly. We are in an accelerated season spiritually to be sure. So much is happening at a rapid pace. Did you ever watch a swirl of clouds as it moves across the sky? Initially it may appear ominous but in time the sky is cleared and all is new and bright. I pray this finds you well today. In walking in my neighborhood I pass a certain tree every day. This spring I shared a photo with you of the beautiful heart shaped leaves. This fall I have been watching one particular leaf on this little tree. A spider has been weaving a web so intricately over the weeks. Today is Columbus Day in America. In 1937 President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared it to be a Federal holiday. In 1971 President Nixon established the second Monday of October as Columbus Day. In some cities it is now being commemorated as National Indigenous People’s Day instead. It seems that every day something is being challenged and changed. There are certainly much more pressing issues in our country in this season than what we call various days on our calendar. Whatever you call today may God bless your day!
