This week there were three known attacks by ISIS terrorists. There was a double suicide bomb attack in Beirut. A busy urban area was targeted. 43 died, over 200 were injured. At a Shiite funeral in Bagdad a funeral bomb left 19 dead and 41 wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility. In Paris there were at least three teams who carried out strategic and timed attacks killing 129 and wounding over 350, many critically. Today is Columbus Day in America. In 1937 President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared it to be a Federal holiday. In 1971 President Nixon established the second Monday of October as Columbus Day. In some cities it is now being commemorated as National Indigenous People’s Day instead. It seems that every day something is being challenged and changed. There are certainly much more pressing issues in our country in this season than what we call various days on our calendar. Whatever you call today may God bless your day!

This has been quite a week in America. The Pope visited amid much fanfare. The Speaker of the House, John Boehner, resigned as of the end of October. Abdul Shalabi, former bodyguard to Osama bin Laden and Kalid Sheik Mohammed, was released from Guantanamo Bay detainment center and transferred to Saudi Arabia. Many influential names which represent powerful institutions and ideologies have graced our news these last few days. Yet in the end these names will fade into history with little fanfare.
