Your Personal Invitation

Come Wash in the Word!

In January every year many Christians and churches take the first weeks to fast and pray.  Recommitting to reading the Bible daily is also high on the list of January commitments.  When looking at the Precious Moments figurine pictured above I could not help but think of the importance of reading the Word of God every day.  It is truly as you ‘wash in the Word’ that you come forth refreshed to face your day!

What Is Required?

To develop a personal relationship with the Lord involves reading and studying His Word.  … Read the rest

Where Can You Find Peace?

To the Mountain

This week there were three known attacks by ISIS terrorists.  There was a double suicide bomb attack in Beirut.  A busy urban area was targeted.  43 died, over 200 were injured.  At a Shiite funeral in Bagdad a funeral bomb left 19 dead and 41 wounded.  ISIS claimed responsibility.  In Paris there were at least three teams who carried out strategic and timed attacks killing 129 and wounding over 350, many critically.  ISIS again claims responsibility and calls the Paris attacks “the first of the storm.”  The pattern is becoming more clear with each passing … Read the rest

Who Weaves Within Your Heart?

What Remains Woven?

I pray this finds you well today.   In walking in my neighborhood I pass a certain tree every day.  This spring I shared a photo with you of the beautiful heart shaped leaves.  This fall I have been watching one particular leaf on this little tree.  A spider has been weaving a web so intricately over the weeks.  As a result, this leaf is mottled and becoming more lifeless each day.  The spider casts his shadow over the leaf on sunny days.  Even though he is quite small his shadow looms largely … Read the rest

Are You Beset?

Beset

What Are You Seeking

That Seems Impossible?

I was reading Psalm 55:5 this week and was taken with the word beset in the King James Version translation.  To be beset is to be overwhelmed, plagued, tormented, and hemmed in on all sides.  There are surely times in life that you can feel beset.  Illness, relationship problems, employment challenges or financial trials can beset the best of us.

Whatever may seem foreboding in your life today, stop and look back over other challenging times in your journey.  God brought you through those times and He is faithful to bring you through … Read the rest

Be The Church!

Be The Church

Do Not Just Go To Church

Be the Church!

Did you realize that this is National Back To Church Sunday?  I did not until I picked up my bulletin this morning.  I could not help but think that believers should be the church first and foremost.  A national day to call folks back to church is a great idea.  However, where have we been?

Are You Ready?

Whether you have been attending church or not I would like to take this day to call each of us back to being the church.  We are in very treacherous times.   Many … Read the rest

Do You Have Radical Faith?

Crazy Faith

Is Your Faith on Fire

Or Is It Lukewarm?

Do you ever feel as if your faith is shrinking and giving way to fear?  Are the circumstances all around you suddenly overwhelming?  Far too often you can live affected by what you see rather than what you believe.  Radical faith brings you above what you see with your eyes.  Radical faith enables you to close your eyes and open your heart to God’s possibilities.  Radical faith is the kind of faith that will get you through the season you are in now and the changes that are coming.

Do Not Fret!

 Step Away from Worry

Do Not Fret

This week while reading Psalm 37 I could not help but notice the instruction, “do not fret,” repeated three times in the first eight verses.  Anytime the Lord repeats something three times it is wise to take notice.  To fret is to agonize, be troubled by or upset over something.  In today’s fast paced, super charged life fretting can readily take over your mind and heart and steal your peace and joy.

There are so many issues that can catapult you into a whirlwind of fret if you are not diligent to guard … Read the rest

Do You Have Your Assignment?

The Assignment of Prayer

Step Into Your Assignment

For ‘Such a Time as This!’

Do you ever wonder why you are here?  Do you wonder why you are on earth in this period of history?  Some periods of history seem to evoke a certain charm and allure.  They offer a journey into a more peaceful and gracious time.  Today is quite a different story.  News headlines tell of one atrocity after another.  War dominates throughout the world.  Our country moves daily from the Christian roots on which it was founded.

What can you do as an individual?  Of course, you can become active politically … Read the rest

Do You Know Who You Are?

If asked who you are what would your answer be? Would it be relative to your career, family, religious denomination, or community affiliations? So often your self-image is quite wrapped up in what you do for a living, who you are in your household or what your various community affiliations are outside your home. It is not uncommon to have your self-image so tied to some position in your life that if you were to lose that position you would no longer know who you are.

Are You Traveling Your Life’s Road

Filled With Joy?

There are so many analogies to life as a journey.  I picked up this print by Billy Jacobs at a sale and it gave thought to the journey of life. Traveling down this road called life there are many choices presented to you.  Do you stay on the straight road or detour to the left or right?  Do you enjoy the scenery of God’s bounty or complain about too much traffic, it is too hot, it is too cold, and the food is not the best?

Jesus offers His peace to … Read the rest
