Today is Pentecost Sunday which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and followers of Jesus Christ in the Book of Acts. It comes 50 days after His resurrection and actually coincides with the Jewish Festival of Weeks, Shavuot in Hebrew. The term Pentecost is derived from the Greek, pentekostos, meaning fifty.

Are you setting resolutions for the year during this first month of 2016? This week there were three known attacks by ISIS terrorists. There was a double suicide bomb attack in Beirut. A busy urban area was targeted. 43 died, over 200 were injured. At a Shiite funeral in Bagdad a funeral bomb left 19 dead and 41 wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility. In Paris there were at least three teams who carried out strategic and timed attacks killing 129 and wounding over 350, many critically. While walking early one morning in my neighborhood I came upon a beautiful group of trees. The trees are small with heart shaped leaves. The leaves come forth in early spring as a brilliant crimson/red and as they grow they deepen in color. The veins in each leaf are so visible. Blessings on this Memorial Day weekend. As you gather with family and friends remember those who gave all in service to our country. On Memorial Day we in the United States of America honor the memory of our fallen throughout the history of our Nation. These brave men and women paid the ultimate price to keep this land free. On this day and every day pray for those who are serving now. Pray for their families who serve as well. Pray for all who have come home wounded.
