It is written:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus
John 14:27
When I read this scripture this morning I could not help but wonder why most Christians are not at peace. I certainly include myself in this at times. Jesus leaves us His peace and gives it to us, yet do we freely receive that peace? His is a deep peace unlike anything the world has to offer. Yet, do we look to the world for peace and therefore decline His?
Jesus tells us not to let our heart be troubled or to let our heart be afraid. It is after all always a heart issue. Is your heart troubled? Is your heart afraid? If so, perhaps you are focusing your attention on something in your situation that is disrupting your heart and causing you to be anxious.
To stay in His peace is not easy, especially in these times. However, to stay in His peace is crucial to move forward in your walk with Him. He lovingly gives His peace to you. The key is to accept it and walk in it. Again, not an easy thing at times, but it is most necessary. How do you do this?
1) Stay in the Word and believe without doubt the promises of God contained therein. They are truth. They are for you.
2) Develop, cherish and maintain a close relationship with the Lord. It is through relationship that you arise and are able to look beyond what you see in the natural. He will lead, direct and guide you when you stay close to Him.
3) Pray without ceasing. Especially pray for those who spitefully use you. If you walk in offense, pray for yourself that the Holy Spirit will soften your heart and lead you to the compassion of Christ for others. Ongoing forgiveness is the key.
4) Keep your focus on what is good. If negative thoughts continue to work their way into your mind, bring them captive at the onset and replace them with a positive thought. I like to replace one negative thought with at least two positive ones. In time, the negative ones are so easy to catch right away.
Jesus gives His peace to you. Will you accept it?
For it is written:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus
John 14:27
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Jesus
Matthew 6:14-15
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
2 Corinthians 10:4-6
