Life is precious. Life is so very sacred. How do you spend your life minutes? Are you thankful? Are you joyful? Or, do you incessantly complain about your job, coworkers, family members and friends?
A very special person in my life, who I have known since he was a little boy, just passed from this world. He was like a son to me. Throughout his life, but especially in the months preceding his death, we were blessed to have some deep conversations. He said he was not angry with God at all about his situation or whatever the outcome. He very much wanted to live and did all he could to stay positive and forward thinking.
However, to stay alive was not to be the case. He died peacefully in a hospice respite center. His family had the opportunity to share his last months and support and care for him. His Dad was able to spend his last night with him and was present when he passed… a gift for both indeed.
The social media condolences were all about his humor, compassion and kindness of heart (it is always a heart issue). He truly was one of the most sensitive, tender hearted people I have ever known. I never heard him say a mean-spirited thing about anyone. He certainly had difficult situations in his life but he never walked through them attacking and complaining about other people. I am honored to have known him and will miss his sweet spirit.
I share this story to say that it is possible to live without the drama of blaming everyone else and deflecting negativity toward others. You are better than that. As a follower of Jesus Christ the call is to walk in compassion and grace.
By the way, until very recently, my friend was not a believer. He chose at the end of his life to accept Jesus into his heart. I am ever thankful that God allowed him the time and opportunity to make that choice.
We know not the time of our last moment on earth so do not wait. If you have not yet made the decision yourself or if you have slipped in your walk, decide today to commit or recommit your life to Christ. Allow Him to be the Lord of your life and lead you from here.
Your eternity rests on this decision. My friend wanted to spend his eternity in heaven. Where will you spend yours?
RIP, Stevie.
For it is written:
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
