On this day we commemorate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   Take a moment to read about who Dr. King was and what he really stood for in his time that profoundly altered history.  Many today would like to link the current black radical resistance movements to Dr. Kings’ work.  He was for racial equality across economic and social lines, yes, but his platform was Christian and non-violent.  “We must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.  We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.”… Read the rest

“We must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.  We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.  Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force…I have a dream that every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh

Step Away From Activity

This week I have been reading the Book of Matthew in the New Testament.  In Chapter 14, Jesus, moved with compassion, tells the people to sit down on the grass to be fed.   It is in sitting that activity slows.  Instead of being the activity you become more open to receiving.  Just as natural digestion is enhanced when seated and quiet so is the consuming of spiritual nourishment.

This week we commemorate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Perhaps Dr. King is most remembered for his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D. C.  His words continue to resonate throughout the land.  His dream for unity in this country echoes today when there is catastrophic division being played out on moral, ideological, religious and racial stages throughout our Nation.  These are treacherous times indeed in our land.  Never before has division been so promulgated even from our very White House.  A leader unites.  A leader does not divide.  Dr. King

Be Nourished in the Lord

As mentioned before, I begin each year afresh in reading the Bible through with daily readings from the Old Testament and the New Testament.  A former Pastor of mine used to get so excited each year-end as he anticipated starting the New Year with a new Bible translation. With his encouragement I began my own annual reading many years ago.  I choose a different study Bible, sometimes a different translation for each year.  As we are in the beginning of the year you might want to think about adding a new … Read the rest

What Dream Do You Hold

In Your Heart?

This week marks the fiftieth anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D. C.  His words continue to resonate throughout the land.  I spent a part of my childhood in the segregated South and saw first-hand the heart wrenching result of the daily denigration of human beings based solely on the color of their skin.  One incident that I remember vividly included my mom and me taking a new baby … Read the rest
